Submission Guidelines:
SHEBREW is a magazine for and about young Jewish women. Our mission is to provide a platform for Jewish women to express themselves while accessing meaningful, entertaining and exciting content relevant to their lives. The magazine provides content in the areas of style, sex and love, scene, self and success. Our focus is not political. Our target audience is primarily urban Jewish women, between 19 and 35 years old. Please review section descriptions closely before submitting queries or manuscripts.

We welcome contributions from freelance writers and photographers. While we will review unsolicited manuscripts, we strongly suggest that you send queries first. When querying, please send 1-3 clips of published or unpublished work to the following email address: ShebrewMagazine@gmail.com

All queries and submissions should be submitted by email. In order to make our content accessible to as wide an audience as possible, we strongly discourage use of unnecessary Yiddish or Hebrew within stories. All non-English words should be italicized and defined in parentheses, ie bubbe (grandmother).

Self: 800– 1200 words. In-depth stories related to identity, Jewish tradition and culture, issues that Jewish women face as young adults, also issues relevant to young audiences of various cultures/ religious backgrounds.

Style: 400 -700 words. Feature articles on Jews in the fashion world. Product reviews, style tips and advice, especially ones relative to Jewish women (i.e. great products for curly hair).

Scene: 600-800 words. Book, movie, music and concert reviews – either about Jewish artists or on Jewish topics. Culture analysis of mainstream artists. We’re also interested in essays on popular culture with a Jewish twist. Restaurant, club and bar reviews (locally).

Sex and Love: 600-1000 words. Stories, advice, rants and raves about relationships. We welcome stories about interfaith and interracial relationships, LGBT issues and frank discussion about sexuality.

Success: 600-1000 words. Stories, advice and personal accounts about work, careers and financial matters. We are looking for submissions about corporate, non-profit and small business experiences.

Interviews:

800 – 1000 words. Interviews with fantastic Jewish women everywhere.

We are a new magazine and at this point we cannot offer any financial compensation.

We reserve the right to make final editorial decisions on all articles submitted. Any work published on shebrewmag.com or shebrew.com becomes the exclusive property of Shebrew Magazine. Contact Shebrew for information on reprinting permissions. We retain the rights to both internet and print copies of anything published under the name “SHEBREW Magazine”. ISSN number pending.
