8-minute mornings: getting ready in a flash
By Anna BerezinaHit the snooze button too many times?
Tips for sleep-lovers on how to get out of the door in 8 minutes or less – tried and tested on real mornings!
Plan out your outfit while you’re hitting that snooze button – as doze off I think about what I can wear so I don’t waste precious time standing in front of the closet.
- Out of bed – give yourself at least 10 minutes before you have to leave the house, especially when trying this for the first time.
- Run to the bathroom, splash your face with cool water, rinse your mouth with mouthwash 2 minutes
- Put on deodorant – can’t forget that with all the running involved!
- Get dressed: key is to pick simple pieces that don’t require complex assembly and that match everything. A grey/ black/ navy sweater or shirt with jeans or black pants is your safest bet for today. You’re not awake enough to experiment with fashion. 3 minutes.
- Put some moisturizer on your face (30 seconds).
- If your hair is long enough – smooth it with gel and put it in a ponytail. If your hair is short – put a lot of product in it and scrunch to make a strategic mess. 1 minute.
- Remember to do your hair and put on face lotion after you get dressed – otherwise you might stain your clothes with the oily stuff.
- You will do your make-up on your commute to work (if you don’t drive) and right after you get to the office. In a separate, always-ready-to-go make-up bag you want to have: concealer, mascara, medium-grey or brown eyeshadow, lip balm and minty chewing gum. I also carry a soft fat eyeliner pencil (I like the Sephora one) – good idea only if you use one every day and know how to handle it.
You can also do your make-up at home – add another 2 minutes.
- Throw on some sunglasses, check for keys and wallet in your purse - 1 minute – and out you go, in under ten minutes!
