NEW YORK COUTURE
The ’80s are hot. Roseanne and The Cosby Show are popular in syndication, Cyndi Lauper is making an acoustic comeback and designer Cassie Veres is drawing from the decade’s punk fashion in her cutting edge creations for New York Couture. Cassie has loved fashion since her mother dressed her up in Christian Dior frocks as a small child. After graduating from Pace University with a B.B.A. in Marketing Cassie went to work in a major design house until she started getting requests for her unique creations. Relying on her originality and the idea that everyone should be able to express their creativity and style through fashion she started New York Couture. Cassie has show her work at Kiehl’s in New York, Slamfest at Rutger’s University and at the Knitting Factory. She is part of Burrow, a cutting-edge designer co-op in Soho. SWEET CHARITY, SILVERLAKE, CA

Hilary Lawson and Stephanie Graniero met in a Loehmann’s dressing room in Miami Beach. The ensuing dressing room small talk sparked a deep friendship and ultimately the creation of Sweet Charity, a hip and funky boutique in Silverlake, California. Sweet Charity features unique items from new designers across the country. True to its name and the Jewish values of tzedakah and social justice, Sweet Charity donates 10% of its profits to one of six charities that the customer chooses. Hilary says that the best part of the new venture is working with customers to pick worthy charities.
Hilary and Stephanie are both designers in their own rights. Hilary’s handbag line Lottie Dottie can be found in over 300 stores nationwide and has been featured on Will and Grace, Sex and the City, The Sopranos and The Today Show. Stephanie created a line of fitness clothing that she features at a Delray Beach boutique named Oh My Bod, recently featured in Boca Raton Magazine.
